Floyd Pheninger is an average, happily-married man with a successful job as a painting instructor. However, when his wife dies in a senseless accident, he tries to find sense in it all by turning his entire life over to cold, hard logic. But, logic proves to be no comfort when an earthquake (confined to his own home) causes him to fall into a strange, surreal black hole. He meets many strange characters, and has several bizarre adventures that lead him to a final confrontation with the cause of all his troubles - the mysterious entity known as Duncan. Only one will survive!
